if i could make it go quiet

‘if i could make it go quiet’ is Norwegian singer girl in red’s long-awaited debut studio album. It was released on April 30, 2021 through AWAl, and through her own label, World In Red.

This album has reoccurring themes of facing the darkest parts of your mind head-on, and simply being angry. girl in red posted this passage on her Instagram on March 26, 2021 , which goes more in depth about the themes of the album:

if i could make it go quiet is an attempt to learn what it’s like to be human. to deal with the scariest parts of myself. to live with the pain of knowing i’m only flesh and bones. to be angry and unforgiving yet still be able to wear my heart on my sleeve. i’m shedding light on the darkest parts of my mind. and i’m letting everyone in. if i could make it go quiet is me simply trying to understand what the fuck is going on.

Four singles were released in succession of this album.

The lead single, midnight love, was released on April 14, 2020. The second single, rue, was released alongside a music video on August 26, 2020. The third single, Serotonin, was released on March 3, 2021, with a music video coming a day before the album officially dropped. Serotonin was produced by FINNEAS, a long-time collaborator and sister to indie pop singer Billie Eilish. With FINNEAS’s influence, It sees girl in red shedding her lo-fi shell, and blossoming into a more mature artist. The final single, You Stupid Bitch, was released on April 14, 2021.

‘if i could make it go quiet’ sees girl in red blooming into an artist that experiments with genres and themes that are new to her, and new to the music industry. It is sure to put her on the map as a young artist to pay attention to.
