Lil Nas X earned his second No. 1 hit today with “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name).” Billboard reports that the song earned 46.9 million on-demand streams and sold 21,000 downloads in its first week on the charts.
“MONTERO” was helped along in part by publicity generated from right-wing backlash to its “satanic” music video and accompanying custom Nike shoes, which sparked outrage amongst certain conservative politicians and commentators. It’s his second No. 1 hit; he previously topped the charts with “Old Town Road,” which broke the record for most weeks at the top of the chart with 19 total.
