FREEM1ND is a Zambian rapper, who can currently be found between London, Paris and Lusaka. His unique sound is what he calls FREE SOUL, a blend of afrobeats, hiphop and soul. A natural storyteller, his music often carries a message that can reach the masses and invigorates power in the listener. Versatility is the word that best suits this artist who is able to touch on anything with passion and relevance.
Recognized for his top notch music videos as well, he loves to innovate and takes his viewers on adventures. FREEM1ND was born Deon Ravenor in Lusaka, Zambia. He spent most of his early childhood there then moving to Europe, going back and forth between Paris and London.
His intricate life brought him to spend time in Malawi, South Africa, Zimbabwe, USA, Italy and Spain.
Music runs in FREEM1ND’s blood : at 8 years old, he was already writing and composing uplifting songs for the people. His instinctive empathy and eagerness to make people happy after being through rough times has driven him to spread love, energy and black pride and unity.
FREEM1ND successfully took the names of Deon,
DeonTheArtist and ManLikeDee (MLD Zambia), before finally having an epiphany and realizing that his true name should be his goal: FREEM1ND.
The name FREEM1ND represents international unity, simultaneously expressing self-confidence in identifying the uniqueness of every soul and the power of solidarity. A complex blend perfectly expressed in FREEM1ND’s body of work. FREEM1ND chose to replace the i in the word mind by a 1, symbolizing what he believes is the key to true happiness: unity.
