BIGBANG is a South Korean boy band formed by YG Entertainment. They officially debuted on August 19, 2006.

The group is comprised of 4 members:
T.O.P. (Choi Seunghyun) – Lead Rapper
G-Dragon (Kwon Ji Yong) – Leader, Main Rapper, Composer, Face of the Group
Taeyang (Dong Young Bae) – Main Vocalist, Main Dancer
Daesung (Kang Daesung) – Lead Vocalist

The group debuted in 2006 with moderate success, but it wasn’t until 2007 that BIGBANG started gaining recognition across Korea. Their track, “Lies,” broke records by staying number one on all major Korean charts for 7 consecutive weeks, and to this day is still much loved by fans worldwide.

Following “Lies,” BIGBANG successfully released multiple albums until going on a 2-year hiatus in Korea, in the meantime releasing 3 studio albums in Japan. The group’s members also branched out to do solo activities during this time, including the GD&TOP sub-unit.

BIGBANG finally broke their hiatus in 2011 when they released their EP Tonight. In the following year, BIGBANG released their most successful physical album to date, Alive. One of the tracks on this album was “Fantastic Baby,” which has been viewed over 200 million times on YouTube.

The group’s second major hiatus began in 2012 and lasted for 3 years, in which members pursued their solo careers. They reunited in 2015 and released a series of highly-successful singles under their Korean studio album, “MADE,” which sold over 15 million copies throughout Asia in total. As of 2016, the full album has not been released.

BIGBANG has gained a global fanbase and international success over the years, and have earned their spot as the “Kings of K-Pop.” The group celebrated their 10th anniversary in 2016 with the film BIGBANG10 the Movie: BIGBANG MADE, a special anniversary concert, a limited edition vinyl LP, and an interview with CNN. However, with the mandatory military service in Korea approaching, it has been understood that the group has to take a break and a very long one at that. Nevertheless, BIGBANG is a one-of-a-kind artist that has achieved worldwide recognition and will be beloved for many years to come.
