Stuart Fergusson Victor Sutcliffe (23 June 1940 – 10 April 1962) was a painter and musician of Scottish origin who was raised in Liverpool, England from the age of three. He is best known as the original bass player for The Beatles. He was also the first person to suggest ‘Beatals’ as a potential band name, citing Buddy Holly & The Crickets as an influence.

He is considered to be an official fifth Beatle (along with Pete Best, producer George Martin and Brian Epstein).
