KIDS SEE GHOSTS

Artist

KIDS SEE GHOSTS was a hip-hop supergroup consisting of Kanye West and Kid Cudi. The collaborative effort was officially announced by Kanye on April 19, 2018.

Before officially forming KIDS SEE GHOSTS, Kanye and Cudi had an extensive collaborative history, dating back to 2008 when Cudi worked with Ye on the latter’s 808s & Heartbreak. Also, in 2008, Kanye signed Cudi to G.O.O.D. Music.

The two would continue to work on each other’s albums over the next few years until Cudi announced that he had departed from G.O.O.D Music in mid-2013. Although he stated that his departure was on good terms, he also said that he felt “underused.”

The duo did not have much interaction at all over the next two years, but they finally reconnected at some point because Cudi assisted with the creation of The Life of Pablo. “Father Stretch My Hands, Pt. 1,” which was released in February 2016, was their first collaboration on wax since 2013.

Later that year, in September, Kanye and Cudi hit another rough patch in their friendship when Cudi called out Ye and others on Twitter. However, their issues were quickly resolved when Kanye made a peace offering.

Once their issues were ultimately resolved, Kanye and Cudi shared the stage on a few occasions. They reassured their resolution when they were pictured together in Japan in August 2017. This was also the beginning of rumors of a collaborative project in the works.

On the same day that Kanye announced KIDS SEE GHOSTS, he also unveiled the release date of his and Cudi’s eponymous collaborative album. KIDS SEE GHOSTS was ultimately released on June 8, 2018.

After the release of KIDS SEE GHOSTS, in July 2018, Cudi revealed that him and Ye would continue to release music as KIDS SEE GHOSTS. In the interview with Billboard, Cudi revealed that the duo had songs that didn’t end up making it to the final cut for their debut album that he hoped to release later. Cudi also confirmed that there would be more music released from the group in a September 2019 interview with Complex.

On April 19, 2022, four years after the announcement of the group, Kid Cudi announced on Twitter that the song “Rock N Roll,” which landed on Pusha-T’s album IT’S ALMOST DRY, would be his final collaboration with Ye due to the latter artist’s recent behavior, which ultimately dissolved the duo’s partnership. Cudi stated:

I did this song a year ago when I was still cool [with] Kanye. I am not cool [with] that man. He’s not my friend and I only cleared the song for Pusha cuz thats my guy. This is the last song u will hear me on [with] Kanye.

A year after disbanding the group, the two would collaborate once again with Ty Dolla $ign on the track “Gun To My Head” on Ty and Ye’s upcoming project Vultures.
