David Dallas is rapper from New Zealand. He grew up in South Auckland, one of the most impoverished areas in New Zealand. He writes about his struggles growing up there, but also writes about his success and how he has “made it”. He has been to America to further his career, as he felt like the New Zealand hip-hop scene wouldn’t provide as much growth as he desired.
He has had popular American rapper Freddie Gibbs appear on his tracks in the past. His fourth album Hood Country Club was mostly written while he was at home in New Zealand, which is apparent, as he features local artists on his tracks. He has been awarded the task of curating the “64 Bars” series in co-operation with Red Bull Studios in Auckland.
