Mark William Lanegan (November 25, 1964 – February 22, 2022) was an American singer and songwriter, known for his baritone, hoarse and guttural voice.

He was the frontman of the grunge band Screaming Trees, with which he started his career in 1984, but he is also known for his solo career, with twelve albums to his credits, and for his several collaborations with the Queens of the Stone Age of his close friend Josh Homme, contributing lead and background vocals.

Lanegan performed in Mad Season in 1995 and he has been later named as the lead vocalist to write down lyrics for the instrumental material the band had recorded for their second album which was never released due to Layne Staley’s death in 2002. Lanegan also formed The Gutter Twins with Greg Dulli in 2003, and among the different collaborations he worked on, he released three albums with singer Isobel Campbell and two albums with multi-instrumentalist Duke Garwood.
