Artist

Monifah Carter is an R&B singer who came to fame in the 1990’s under the tutelage of rapper and then-president of Uptown Records, Heavy D.

As a new signee to the label, she had a hit right out of the box with “I Miss You (Come Back Home)” in 1995 from her debut album Moods…Moments.

By 1998, Monifah gave herself a “bad girl” makeover delivering the hit single “Touch It,” a saucy tribute to cunnilingus.

Promotion on her third album Home was abandoned by her label. After a period battling depression and drug addiction, Monifah returned to the spotlight on the TV show R&B Divas where she came out of the closet as bisexual and her wedding to life-partner Terez Mychelle was televised on TV One.
