Ansley “Jukeboxx” Joye was born and raised in Augusta, Georgia, SouthEastern United States and began composing music a age 12. Joye began singing and playing instruments in childhood such as the piano and clarinet. In her later study of music she began learning percussive instruments from international cultural traditions such as the berimbau, congas, atabaque, West African Drum orchestra ( djembe and djun-djuns) as well as South Asian traditional instruments like the dubki. She has five albums to date – 1) The Assault Mixtape 2) Therapy Sessions 3) The Process 4) Milligrams of My Mind and 5)The Juke Joint. Joye has collaborated nationally and internationally with hip hop artists, traditional Classical Indian musicians, producers, beat boxers and vocalists. She has performed in various venues in Patna, Chennai, Calcutta and New Delhi India as well as the US. Ansley is currently working on her 6th album, “The Intercession” to be released January 2019.

Full Bio – Ansley “Jukeboxx” Joye is a full-time multidisciplinary artist, Official U.S. Cultural Ambassador, Hip Hop feminist and women’s rights activist. She holds a BFA in Visual and Performing Arts from Savannah State University (2008) and an MA in American Dance Studies (2011) from Florida State University. In 2014 Jones traveled to India as a cultural ambassador for the “Next Level Program,” then returned in 2016 with “Cultural Vistas,” a U.S. State Department urban arts program, “Celebrate the Connections.” In 2015 Jones received a creative performing arts fellowship from The American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS) for her 2017 project, “The Jukeboxx Movement’s program the “From Surviving to Thriving.” This program is geared towards creating safe-spaces for survivors of gender-based violence through hip hop culture and cultural artistic expression. The three-month program was based in Kolkata and Shanti Niketan in which I taught jewelry making and crochet classes to children at Rupkhata Art school. Next trip will include a seven city tour in India promoting “Survivor’s Keeper Program,” culminating in a subsequent seven-city tour in the U.S. along with a compilation album and a feature length documentary film. Joye’s most recent accomplishments include a panelist and keynote speaker of New College of Florida’s “Black Joy” symposium. Her article “Bgirls As Drag Kings,” was published February 15th 2018 in an American dance anthology with the University of Florida Press entitled “Perspectives on American Dance: The New Millennium.”
