Citizen Queen is an a capella girl group, consisting of members Nina Nelson, Hannah Mrozak, Kaylah Sharve', Kaedi Dalley, and Cora Isabel. They were formed in 2018 by Scott Hoying (Pentatonix and Superfruit), Ben Bram (Grammy award-winning a capella arranger/producer), and Shams Ahmed (arranger and vocal producer). Their first video was uploaded on December 7, 2018 on the Citizen Queen YouTube channel and was a cover of “No Tears Left to Cry” by Ariana Grande.

A week later, they released a cover of Donny Hathaway’s “This Christmas” along with a music video. Two weeks after that, they covered Shawn Mendes“Lost in Japan” and released an official music video.

On January 15, 2019, they dropped their viral video called “Evolution of Girl Groups”, which features songs by girl groups from 1954 to 2016 and has 19 million views as of September 2020.

Later that year, they released covers and the accompanying music videos for “Never Enough” from The Greatest Showman, “Best Part” by Daniel Caesar and H.E.R., “Good As Hell” by Lizzo, v=Z_cXmwI0uEs “Señorita” by Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello, and “bad guy” by Billie Eilish.

Between the releases of “Never Enough” and “Best Part”, CQ took a break from releasing music to tour with Pentatonix.

In 2020, starting on January 10, they released more music and music videos, including a medley of songs from Whack World by Tierra Whack, “Slow Burn” by Kacey Musgraves, and “Free Your Mind” by En Vogue, which was featured in a livestream for the Human Rights Campaign.

On December 7, 2020, they announced that they would be releasing their first original song, “Call Me Queen” on December 11.
