Artist

Hailing from Trenton, NJ, 20-year old rapper Trey Twizz didn’t put too much thought or effort into rapping at first. But after the tragic loss of his best friend, Kuyler, a 19-year old ally whose young life was cut short, Trey got his priorities in order. He says, “I was inspired to start rapping after the death of my friend Kuyler. He always saw my potential and encouraged me to go deeper. After he died, I took it more seriously.” Influenced by rappers Lil Durk, PnB Rock, Lil Baby and G Herbo, Trey created a style uniquely his own by combining tight, melodic flows with vivid trap lyricism.

Trey’s early collaborations with Toosii (“War”) and Calboy (“Paid Now”) led to industry co-signs from WorldStarHipHop, Fatboy SSE, PNB Rock, Lil Durk and Lil Zay Osama, who is featured on Trey’s new single, “Nobody Knows.” The song finds both artists reflecting on life’s uncertainty; but the vivacious music video captures their mutual respect and admiration for one other. About the track, Trey Twizz says, “’Nobody Knows’ is about growing up in my community, how we didn’t have anything and became products of our environments. This path was chosen for us.”

In 2019, Trey released the tracks “Paid Now” ft. Calboy followed by “No Hesitation.” “Paid Now,” remained on Spotify’s ‘Off the Strength’ playlist for 6 straight weeks, while “No Hesitation” first gained buzz on SoundCloud, reaching Top 10 on SoundCloud’s “New & Hot” R&B Chart. With lyrics centered on growing up in poverty and trying to make it by any means necessary, “No Hesitation,” highlights themes of pain, struggle and the desire for success.

Trey continued to release singles in 2020, including the track “War,” feat. Toosii and “Innocent,” a heartfelt homage to Kuyler. Recalling the inspiration from his friend, Trey says, “I never wanted to make music. I remember Kuyler always trying to get me in the studio and when he died I just went and expressed how I felt on a beat. He made me want more and as long as I’m alive his name will be too.”

Trey Twizz is prepping his debut EP for a 2021 release on Groundwērk/eOne.
