Parliament (formerly The Parliaments) was a funk group formed by George Clinton in 1968 after a legal dispute with Revilot Records over their original name.
Its sister act, Funkadelic, was assembled as a backing band but would eventually take on a larger role, with both groups playing off of and borrowing from one another.
