Chubby Checker

Artist

Chubby Checker (born Ernest Evans, October 3, 1941 in Spring Gulley, South Carolina) is an American rock and roll singer and dancer.
There are many rumors how “Chubby Checker” became his performer’s name, one is, that it was a record label invention, a “twist” on the ever popular Fats Domino: Domino vs Checker, both game names, and Fats vs Chubby.
He ist best known for popularizing the “Twist” dance craze with his 1960 hit cover version of Hank Ballard’s R&B hit “The Twist”, not only a #1 hit in 1960 but again in 1961 (after appearing live on “The Ed Sullivan Show”).
