The New York Dolls were a hard-rock band formed in NYC in 1971. They were some of the first on the punk scene. They are known for their androgynous garb worn on stage that included large hats, high heels, and satin. The Encyclopedia of Popular Music called them “one of the most influential rock bands of the last 20 years”. They influenced many band including Kiss, the Ramones, and The Sex Pistols. Earle Slick confirmed the band had broken up during an interview in 2011 after their tour with Alice Cooper.
