Modestep are a british dubstep duo consisting of Josh Friend and Pat Lundy. The duo was originally a band tbat also consisted of Josh’s brother Tony, Matthew Curtis, Nick Tsang, and Kyle Deek. The band was founded in 2010, Lundy joined in 2014, and Tony left on May 4th, 2017.
The band made their big break in 2011 when they released their debut single “Sunlight”, which was praised by many as a pioneering track in Skrillex-era dubstep.
In 2013, they released their debut album “Evolution Theory”, which also featured “To The Stars”, “Show Me A Sign”, “Leave My Mind”, “Praying For Silence”, and a remastered version of “Sunlight.”
In 2014, Curtis, Tsang, and Deek left the group while Lundy took their place. Lundy and the Friend brothers released their first album as a trio, “London Road”, which featured tracks like “Machines”, “Make You Mine” with the Teddy Killerz, “Sing” with Trolley Snatcha, Rainbow with Partysquad, and Damien with FuntCase, the last of which featured a monologue by Alan Ford specifically made for the track.
In 2017, Tony Friend left the group, which led to a brief hiatus. They came back in mid-2017 with “Living For The Weekend,” which was released on British bass music record label Never Say Die.
In late 2017, the duo released “Higher” on Canadian electronic music record label Monstercat. They also released two more tracks on Monstercat in 2018: “Going Nowhere” with Dion Timmer and “Summer”.
In late 2018, Modestep signed to another British bass music record label, Disciple. Fans thought this was due to some problems with Monstercat, but the duo confirmed that everything was still all good with the both of them. The duo’s first song on Disciple was By My Side.
The duo proceeded to release more songs on the label as part of compilations. For example, “WIP” was released on the second compilation from Disciple’s sub-label Round Table.
On January 14th, 2019, Friend and Lundy came back to Monstercat for a bit to release “Not IRL”, a gritty future bass track that focuses on the feel of “running away from real life” thanks to things like the Internet.
After a one-month break, the duo came back to Disciple to release their “Echoes” EP on February 27th, 2019. The EP featured four solo tracks and a long-awaited collab with German artist Virtual Riot titled “Nothing”.
