TOBACCO

Artist

Tobacco is the production name of Thomas Fec, a Pittsburgh-based American electronic musician, and the moniker for his solo releases. Fec creates grimy, warbling compositions of analog synths; primitive, toy-like drums; and absurdist lyrics sung through sinister vocoders. Tobacco’s obsession with recording to analog tape for a gritty sound – even physically damaging and distorting it for effect – is reflected in grotesque visual accompaniments: retro-mashup album covers, concert videos cut from bizarre underground VHS tapes, and masks worn onstage.

Fec is the frontman of psychedelic rock band Black Moth Super Rainbow and a producer for Demon Queen and Malibu Ken. He is married to Maureen Boyle, a keyboardist for BMSR who runs the solo project The Seven Fields of Aphelion.
