Artist

Formed in 1985, On a Friday was a new wave/jangle pop band formed in the Abingdon School at Oxfordshire, England. Consisting of lead singer/guitarist Thom Yorke, guitarist Ed O'Brian, bassist Colin Greenwood, drummer Phil Selway and saxophone player Razmus Peterson (Jonny Greenwood would join as a keyboardist/guitarist in 1991), they had recorded several demo tapes, which have been released later online. Their name comes from the fact that they could only get together to rehearse altogether on Friday’s after school. Although they never liked the name, they stuck by it until their signing to EMI in 1992, where they subsequently changed their name to Radiohead, after the Talking Heads song of the same name. Lead singer Thom Yorke stated himself that he heard rumours of fans walking out of their On a Friday shows talking about how great their music was but how rubbish their name was. In 2021, a never-before heard of demo tape by the band was auctioned off.
