Budd Dwyer

Artist

The producer Budd Dwyer is a persona of Scott Arceneaux Jr.—or $crim—half of rap duo $UICIDEBOY$.

Though each member has many nicknames, this is the alias $crim typically uses when he produces. The group is known for including Budd’s name on their credits to create the illusion that he is a separate person or alter ego.

The name of this persona is derived from Robert Budd Dwyer, the 30th State Treasurer of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. On January 22, 1987, Dwyer called a news conference in the Pennsylvania state capital of Harrisburg where he killed himself in front of the gathered reporters, by shooting himself in the mouth with a .357 Magnum revolver.

Typically, $crim would be creating tracks for him and his cousin Aristos Petrou to use for upcoming albums in the duo $UICIDEBOY$, and his sound depends on how he is currently feeling whenever they are making a track. For example, “Kill Yourself (Part III)” has a very somber, depressing mood to it. However, other songs like “$outh $ide $uicide” show his more aggressive, crowd-jumping, mosh-pitting side of music.

Overall, Scott’s experience in DJing prior to the formation of $UICIDEBOY$, added with his inspirations like the Three 6 Mafia, has laid the foundations for the sound that he was yearning to create for ages, which finally gains worldwide attention.
