Wale The Sage

Wale The Sage

Artist

Wale Idris is a Nigerian-born rapper and songwriter, and his style is fact-paced and lyrically adept. He has a talent for telling dense, complex stories in the span of a short song (typically 2-3 minutes). His main influences, as listed by himself, are J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Saba and Kota the Friend. This is shown through his music, as it is a breath of fresh air, especially when compared to many of the new rappers. His songs tend to have a chill, laid-back style. His first song was ‘Family Ties’, released initially on Altar Productions. His storytelling and rhyme schemes had many of the lyrical underground hip-hop fanatics excited, but he was quiet for a bit. He then made his own channel, and his first upload was ‘This Thing Called Life’, considered by some of the Londoners (including me) who listen to me to be his best song. As of recently, his most popular song was ‘Do You Love You’, which had around 800,000 streams and was his most popular song until the release of his hit, Bleue, which was accompanied by a Colours-inspired video on his channel. It spring boarded the streams of his other songs, and is currently his most streamed song and the first of his videos to break 100k view on Youtube. Many are watching Wale intensely to see where his career goes from here. All we can say is, we hope he stays true to his craft and continue the grind (info provided by @Maxlik_M on Instagram).
