Marcellis is a Chicago based Hip-Hop artist who began his journey as a youth who moved around a lot. As Marcellis and his family dealt with hardships that were difficult to manage, he’d found a love for music when he was placed in classes to assist him with his grades, but instead he began to write. During “free-write” sessions in school, Marcellis would begin writing his first rhymes. Feeling drawn by the words he wrote, he shared them with his classmates and they encouraged him to perform his work whereupon he truly discovered the potential of his musical talents

Growing up, Marcellis and his family listened to and were inspired by non-secular music. At times finding himself on stage with his mother, sisters at church; Marcellis’ sole exposure to mainstream music was at school.

A few weeks after his first class performance, artists like Kendrick Lamar began to emerge onto the Hip-Hop scene and was an early influence on how Marcellis saw life, music and their intersection.
As his curiosity developed, he dove deeper into his craft, exploring and studying a variety of artists like B.O.B, Nicki Minaj, The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac, Marcellis began to secretly unearth more and more of the Hip-Hop world.

“From there, Marcellis finally decided it was time to start recording. He started by going to a studio in a friend’s house and uploading his tracks to SoundCloud. Marcellis would repeat this process for the first few years as a means to sharpen his craft and get a better sense of his voice over the microphone. After releasing several songs to the platform, he decided he was finally ready to create his first project.

“Summer Cherries” debuted in the Summer of 2017, a project full of Marcellis’ friends. The project explored the playful sound of Chicago Hip-Hop and summertime in the city; he followed the project with a string of singles that would only help augment his growth as an artist and help set the stage for furthering Marcellis’ career.
