Jane Froman

Artist

Ellen Jane Froman (1907-1980) was a classically trained singer who nevertheless gravitated to popular music when she started working on radio programs. She also acted in films before February 1943, when she suffered crippling injuries on board a USO plane that crashed in Portugal while taking entertainers to perform for U.S. soldiers. She had difficulty walking for the rest of her life, but continued to perform on Broadway and on radio shows. In 1952, a movie biography of her titled With a Song in My Heart used her recordings.
