Kay Starr (b. July 21, 1922; d. Nov 3, 2016) was an American singer who dominated the pop charts throughout the 1950s and ‘60s. She was best known for her number-one singles “Wheel of Fortune” and “The Rock & Roll Waltz,” which spent a combined 16 weeks atop the US Singles chart, and “The Man With the Bag” and “I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm,” her signature Christmas songs.

Starr was known for her diverse array of musical styles; throughout her career, she dabbled in many different genres, including country, pop, blues, and rock & roll, sometimes with more than one in a single song. She recorded albums with Tennessee Ernie Ford and Count Basie, and notched more than 35 top 40 entries on the US singles chart between 1948 and 1960.
