Sky Sailing was one of Adam Young’s (better known as Owl City) first music projects–through 11 songs recorded in 2006, in his parent’s basement. A collection of the songs was finally released in 2010, through the album An Airplane Carried Me To Bed. According to Young, the songs were written for “(his) own ears”, which explains the softer, somewhat acoustic feel of the project. Like Owl City’s older tracks, they were also created as an outlet for his insomnia, along with his dreams of becoming a musician.

As of 2016, most traces of the project, through Facebook pages and an official website, have been removed from the Internet. Nonetheless, an archived version of the above-mentioned Sky Sailing website exists, and includes a “Letter from Adam” detailing the events that led up to the project being initially made public.
