After a lengthy legal dispute with her previous label, 1501 Certified Entertainment, Megan Thee Stallion announced in October 2023 that she would be going independent, under the ‘Hot Girl Productions’ brand. Megan has stated how she found it difficult to release her music under the terms in 1501’s contract with her – her management company, Roc Nation, labelled it ‘iffy’. She would fund her upcoming songs alone. The first song to be released under the Hot Girl Productions label was ‘Cobra’, in November 2023, followed by ‘Hiss’, two months later. The entire album these two songs will be on, currently referred to only as MTS3, will also be self-funded.
