Liz Phair

Artist

Liz Phair was part of the second-wave of Riot Grrrl culture. As the title of her first album, Exile in Guyville indicated, she was an exile in the male-dominated world of music – and her early music reflected this. She developed a persona and an approach which addressed the female coming-of-age struggle of a rocker who was attempting to make it in a male-dominated field, and has released five albums since. Arguably, her most popular song is the pop-crossover song “Why Can’t I, which follows the confusing process of falling for someone for the first time.
