Weyes Blood

Artist

Natalie Mering was born in Santa Monica, California in 1988 and grew up in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Both her parents are Christian musicians and her older brother Zak Mering is also a musician known as Raw Thrills who founded and runs the label GunkTVRecords.

After rebelling against her parents' religious upbringing at the age of 15, she played bass in Portland-based freak rock collective Jackie-O Motherfucker for a time before venturing out solo around 2006.

With experimental darkly folky songs that twists around noisy, electronic undercurrents, she has performed as Weyes Bluhd and Wise Blood before recording her first album under the moniker of Weyes Blood & the Dark Juices, The Outside Room, released in 2011 on Not Not Fun Records.

Under Mexican Summer Records, she released The Innocents in 2014, an album “about young love”, and Front Row Seat to Earth in 2016. She has also released two EPs: Cardamon Times in 2015, and Myths 002 in 2017. Myths 002 was released in collaboration with Ariel Pink, with whom she had already collaborated with backing vocals in his 2012 album Mature Themes. She has also collaborated on Mild High Club’s track The Chat, released in their 2015 album Timeline.

In 2019, Weyes Blood released her most acclaimed and popular album to date, Titanic Rising, on Sub Pop. The album was produced by Jonathan Rado of Foxygen fame and its sound is heavily inspired by chamber pop and soft rock of the 1970s.
