Hilltop Hoods

Artist

The Hilltop Hoods are a 3 piece Aussie Hip Hop group from Adelaide, South Australia. The group is one of Australia’s most commercially successful acts, with 7 of their albums certified platinum or multi-platinum, and have won 10 ARIA awards, their first being in 2006 for The Hard Road and their most recent in 2019 for their headline The Great Expanse world tour.

The group consists of founding MCs, Suffa (Matthew Lambert) and Pressure (Daniel Smith), and DJ Debris (Barry Francis), who joined after founding member DJ Next (Ben Hare) left the group.

HTH have a real underground type sound to them; their music being quite lyric focused with their backing music containing catchy beats, keyboard melodies, chants and like the artists that inspire them, their tracks have a slightly raw feel to it also. Their work is easily recognisable by their fresh and unique style.

When they were starting out they called themselves The Hoods and later added the name “Hilltop” which given to the Blackwood suburb by its youth occupants of which Suffa and Pressure were inclusive.

The group is influenced and inspired by artists such as The Notorious B.I.G., KRS-ONE, Gang Starr, Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, and Public Enemy.

Some of their biggest fan favourite tracks are “The Nosebleed Section”, “Chase That Feeling”, “I Love It”, “Cosby Sweater”, “1955” and “Leave Me Lonely”
