Keifer Keith Thompson was born in Miami, Oklahoma on March 17, 1976. His father is songwriter Darrion Keith Thompson and the two often collaborate. Keifer married Shawna McIlwain on May 15, 1999 and together they make up Thompson Square. They reside in Nashville and have announced that they are expecting a baby boy in January 2016.
