Virginia Wynette Pugh (May 5, 1942 – April 6, 1998) was born in Tremont, Mississippi, and used the stage name, Tammy Wynette. She was a country music singer-songwriter and one of classic country’s most successful artists.

Wynette died at the age of 55, the result of a long history of medical problems and over a dozen major surgeries. She died of a cardiac arrhythmia.

Wynette is a Grammy winner, named to the Grammy Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame. Faith Hill, Sara Evans, and Lee Ann Womack all name her an influence on their music.
