Chappell & Co. is an English music publisher, founded in 1811 by pianist Samuel Chappell. In the 1840’s, Chappell began manufacturing pianos. In 1970, the song publisher was sold to PolyGram for 20 million pounds, while the manufacturing business was sold to Yamaha in 1980. The song publisher was sold to investors in 1984 for $200 million, then to Warner Music Group in 1987 for $275 million, forming Warner Chappell. Chappell’s recorded music library was sold to Zomba in 1988.
