Lil Pump

Artist

Gazzy Fabio Garcia (born August 17, 2000), better known by the stage name Lil Pump, is a rapper from Miami-Dade County, Florida.

When Pump was only thirteen years old, his cousin, Lil Ominous, introduced him to future close friend, Smokepurpp; the two eventually became close collaborators. Pump began rapping in 2016 alongside his Smokepurpp. His first song was self-titled, after Purpp produced a track and asked him to freestyle over it. He released several more singles on SoundCloud, eventually becoming a respected individual in the South Florida underground rap scene.

Pump rose to mainstream popularity in 2017 with hit singles like “D Rose” and “Boss.” In June of that year, he signed a record deal with Warner Bros. Records and Tha Lights Global, two months before his seventeenth birthday. However, in January 2018, his contract was voided due to him being a minor at the time of signing. In August, he released the infamous “Gucci Gang,” which peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified quadruple-platinum by the RIAA.

On October 6, 2017, Lil Pump released his eponymous debut album. The project became a commercial success, debuting at #3 on the Billboard 200.

Following his contract with Warner Bros. and Tha Lights Global being voided in 2018, artists such as Gucci Mane and DJ Khaled took interest on signing him. Rumors sparked in February 2018 that Pump had signed a deal with 1017 Records, a record imprint owned by Gucci Mane, however the rumors turned out to be false and he had re-signed a new contract with Tha Lights Global and Warner Records on March 12.

On April 13, 2018, Pump released the follow-up single to “Gucci Gang,” “ESSKEETIT,” to which it was a commercial success. Thanks to his previous success the prior year, in June 2018, he landed himself a spot in the XXL Freshman Class. Then on September 7, Lil Pump’s career would explode once again after collaborating with Kanye West and comedian Adele Givens on the infamous track “I Love It.” The track would gain some traction from fans, most notably for its music video and was used in variety of memes. Pump would continue to capture success, ending off the year with the song “Arms Around You,” a collaboration track with the late XXXTENTACION and Skrillex. The track also featured Swae Lee and Maluma.

After releasing a slew of singles and collaborating with other artists such as Lil Uzi Vert and Lil Wayne, Lil Pump released his sophomore studio album, Harverd Dropout, on February 22, 2019, to which it saw similar results with his debut album. The album debuted at #7 on the Billboard 200. The RIAA later Gold-certified both albums.

On December 10, 2021, Lil Pump released a collaborative mixtape with longtime producer Ronny J in anticipation of Lil Pump 2 originally named Lil Pump 1.5. The title was changed two days later to No Name. This would be the first album in his discography to commercially fail, after having two successful albums.

Pump’s third studio album, Lil Pump 2, was first announced in 2019 with an original expected release date of 2020, but the project would fall subject to continuous delays. At one point in February 2020, Pump claimed in a now-deleted Instagram story that he was going to be quitting music, however he quickly backtracked his statement and previewed new music. After numerous delays, on March 17, 2023, Lil Pump released the anticipated Lil Pump 2. The album, however, commercially failed, as the album reportedly sold 2,000 copies and failed to enter into the Billboard 200.
