Artist

Marius Lucas-Antonio Listhrop (born June 19, 1994), better known by the stage name Scarlxrd—pronounced “Scar Lord”—is a British artist from Wolverhampton, England.

Formerly a YouTube vlogger known as Mazzi Maz, he garnered attention for his collaborations with fellow YouTuber Sam Pepper. He later deleted his videos in order to create a new image for himself and began rapping in 2014; releasing projects at a rapid rate. He was also the vocalist and the founder for the now-defunct rap-rock band Myth City.

He is known for replacing “O"s with "X"s when stylizing letters, as well as his unique sound, which combines rap and metal. His signature mask, which he wears to distance himself from his YouTube image, was inspired by the Japanese manga Tokyo Ghoul, although he would start to wear the mask less often after the release of INFINITY, but has since returned to wearing the famous mask.

In August 2016, Scarlxrd debuted his new moniker with the release of the single, “Girlfriend.” During the span of that year and 2017, Scarlxrd began releasing projects consistently. He would then gain notoriety upon the release of his April 2017 single, “Heart Attack,” which has over 21 million plays on SoundCloud and over 100 million views on YouTube, as of December 2022.

Since the release of “Heart Attack,” Scarlxrd would continue to release a slew of singles and mixtapes, some of which would end up being notable in Scarlxrd’s discography, such as “6 Feet,”, “Chain$aw,” and “King, Scar.” Two of those songs would end up being released as music kits in the popular online game, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

In 2018, Scarlxrd scored a record deal with Island Records, thanks to the success of his earlier singles. On May 4, 2018, Scarlxrd released his debut major-label album, titled DXXM, to which it gained positive reviews from fans.

After had releasing singles from mid-2018 to early-2019, in anticipation for an upcoming album, some of those being “HXW THEY JUDGE” and “BEZERK”, on March 15, 2019, Scarlxrd released his second major-label album, INFINITY. Later that year, “The Purge” was featured on the first season of the HBO television series Euphoria. Shortly after releasing another slew of singles, all of which were “throwaways” according to Scarlxrd, on October 4, 2019, Scarlxrd released his third major-label album, IMMXRTALISATIXN. That same day, he independently released an EP titled, THRXWAWAYS AS PRXMISED, which were tracks recorded during the IMMXRTALISATIXN era. Shortly after, on December 13, 2019, Scarlxrd released his fourth major-label album. Acquired Taste: Vxl. 1.

On February 28, 2020, Scarlxrd released his fifth major-label album, SCARHXURS. Three months later, Scarlxrd started to roll out his sixth and final major-label album, FANTASY VXID, with the release of five EP’s to build anticipation for the album. Those being INTRX, SPRING, AUTUMN, WINTER, and SUMMER.

On December 5, 2020, it was announced that Scarlxrd had left Island Records, due to issues he had been facing with the label. After departing from Island Records, on February 5, 2021, Scarlxrd released his twelfth studio album, Dxxm II, a sequel to his 2018 album, DXXM. Like it’s predecessor, the album gained positive feedback from fans. During that year, Scarlxrd started to appear in other songs from the likes of Trippie Redd and ZillaKami. Scarlxrd would go on to do a collabroative EP with Ghostemane, titled LXRDMAGE, on July 30, 2021. On October 29, 2021, Scarlxrd released his thirteenth studio album, DeadRising.

In April to May 2022, Scarlxrd began his rollout for his fourteenth studio album, Acquired Taste: Vxl. 2, a sequel to his December 2019 album, Acquired Taste: Vxl 1, in which he released four EP’s to build anticipation for the album. Those being Genesis, Severance, Cxnflict, and Prxmise. The album was fully released on May 13.

In August 2022, Scarlxrd collaborated with rapper CORPSE and producer Kordhell on the song “Misa Misa!” Scarlxrd and Kordhell would continue to collaborate, with the release of their project PSYCHX on October 28, 2022. This would make the departure from the trap metal sound that consecrated him in favor of the drift phonk genre.

Entering into 2023, Scarlxrd would drift away from the drift phonk genre, getting back into his roots, thanks to the release of his fifteenth studio album, Made In Hell. Entirely produced by Muppy, who had produced a vast majority of Scarlxrd songs, Made In Hell sees Scarlxrd going back to his trap metal routes. The success of his drift phonk phase also saw Scarlxrd getting a record deal with Warner Music Group.

Since Made In Hell’s release, Scarlxrd would branch himself out with more collaborations with a wide variety of people, one of which include the popular YouTube channel Smosh, appearing in one of their videos. Not only that, but Scarlxrd would also land a collaboration with the Australian band Pendulum on the track “Mercy Killing.” Scarlxrd is ready to gear up for his sixteenth studio album, DXXM III, expected to be released sometime in 2024.

Outside of music, Scarlxrd also owns a fashion brand named DXXMLIFE, which is named after his May 2018 studio album, DXXM, in which he sells a wide variety of techwear clothing. The brand launched in 2020, in promotion for his February 2021 studio album, Dxxm II.
