After seeing the track list for Taylor Swift’s upcoming album, Lauryn Marie was inspired to predict what Swift’s song bearing the same name on The Tortured Poets Department might sound like. What started as a writing exercise quickly grew to something bigger on February 12th, 2024 when Lauryn posted a clip of her singing I Can Do It With A Broken Heart on Instagram and TikTok. The song quickly took off, garnering over 700k views and 50k likes across both platforms in just two days. Inundated with demand for the full song’s release, Lauryn wrote, recorded, and produced the rest of I Can Do It With A Broken Heart entirely by herself and released it alongside a lyric video on February 23rd, 2024.
