“DAUGHTER” finds Beyoncé’s character struggling with violent thoughts in the face of infidelity, which cause her to recognize qualities of her father in her thinking. She more fully embodies the roles of protector assumed in previous tracks as she acts on threats against a woman who has eyes for her partner. Throughout, she warns that she is not harmless and can become like her father–she is his daughter, after all.

The song features Beyoncé singing an Italian opera song called “Caro Mio Ben” –included because it narrates about the loneliness felt by the absence of his loved one, and the cruelty he inflicts on her.
