Danny “Danny D” Haimona created a song “to put Māori hip hop on the map”, and its influence has been documented. It became a Māori empowerment anthem and notably saw Danny reappropriating the racial slur Hori), similarly to how African Americans' reclaimed slurs directed at them.

Daniel Maimona and Dam Native won ‘Most Promising Male Vocalist’ and ‘Most Promising Group’ at the New Zealand Music Awards off the back of this song. The song’s visuals were also nominated for ‘Best Video’.

The song’s political message was so impactful that Daniel shared its lyrics nearly 20 years after its release.
