Big Sean

The 20th track on Big Sean’s ‘UKnowBigSean’ mixtape

Big Sean had a concept to make a full song with a new flow that involved linking two related phrases [and/or sentences and words] on each bar of the song in a way that each succeeding phrase is also related to the first phrase/sentence of the next bar. The first part of each bar is usually either a phrase or a full sentence while the second part may be either a short phrase, one word or a string of related words. Although many people believe Big Sean pioneered this flow, which most people refer to as the ‘Punchline Flow’, rap battlers from the 90’s and 2000’s like Sean P and Murda Mook have been known to use it, but not as prominently

This flow would later be imitated by various other artists like Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Ludacris and most recognizably by Drake on ‘Forever’
