“Scream” was the lead single from Michael Jackson’s ninth studio album, HIStory, Past, Present and Future, Book 1. Released on May 31, 1995, the single–a duet between Michael and younger sister Janet–was a world-wide smash. The track was written, composed, and produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis in collaboration with the two Jacksons.

“Scream” is an uptempo, hard-edged amalgam of dance-pop, new jack swing, and r&b. Lyrically it’s an angry rebuttal to the tabloid coverage of the child sexual abuse accusations made against Michael Jackson in 1993.

The single, buttressed by Mark Romanek’s iconic (and at the time most expensive) music video, was a world-wide smash.
