A song about turning down a seductive yet untrustworthy partner, “Faith” topped the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks and also peaked at #2 on the U.K. Singles chart.

The track became emblematic, with images from the music video (the Wurlitzer Jukebox; Michael’s leather jacket, shades, and cross earring; bare female legs in colorized heels; and the minimalist choreography) reaching iconic status along with the song and the artist himself. The jacket in particular was so recognizable that George Michael later burned it in the music video for “Freedom ‘90” to signal the end of his Faith era and show that he wasn’t the same person anymore.
