Earth Song

Earth Song

Michael Jackson

“Earth Song” is a ballad performed by singer Michael Jackson, taken from his ninth studio album, HIStory: Past, Present and Future Book I, as the third single from the album on November 27, 1995. Unlike the songs Jackson performed in the past, such as “We Are the World” and “Man in the Mirror”, this song discusses the environment and animal welfare. “Earth Song” was originally set to be included in the Dangerous album under the name “What About Us”. However, it didn’t make the cut. A music video was also released and was shot in four different regions which details the destruction and the rebirth of the planet Earth. The song charted at number 15 on the US Dance Club Songs, but charted at number one in the UK, as the nation’s most successful single of the Christmas season in 1995. Jackson was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1997, in addition to receiving numerous recognition from animal and environmental organizations.
