Aerosmith scored their first top 20 single in ten years with “Dude (Looks Like a Lady)”, the first single from Permanent Vacation. But its third single, “Angel”, outdid all of their previous hits.

After reaching #4 on the US Rock Chart in March 1988, “Angel” also crossed over to pop – climbing all the way to #3 that April. “Angel” also performed well in Canada and was a minor UK hit.

“Angel” remains their second-biggest hit to date behind the Diane Warren-penned chart-topper “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” ten years later.

Guitarist Joe Perry once shared that some accused the band of selling out with this monster ballad, but he’d come back with “What about ‘Dream On’?”
