As William C. Martell of Script Magazine (a subsection of Writer’s Digest) explains, the 2008 comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall leaves no dramatic stone un-turned.

Russell Brand’s character “Aldous Snow” makes for a brilliant adversary in the story since he constantly reminds the protagonist, “Peter Bretter” (Jason Segel), that he is banging Pete’s ex, “Sarah Marshall” (Kristen Bell). The endless barrage of sexual innuendo in the song is a perfect way to stab at Peter’s deepest shortcoming, his boyish need to be with Sarah. It helps that Peter is also an aspiring musician and that Aldous Snow is a famous one.

The character of Aldous Snow was so stand-offish that he became the focus of 2010’s Get Him To The Greek.
