Who’s Lovin’ You

Who’s Lovin’ You

The Jackson 5

The song reflects on the failure of a relationship and the apprehension that accompanies wondering who’s currently involved with an ex-lover.

Written by Smokey Robinson, it was first recorded by The Miracles in 1960. Since then, it has been covered by various artists including The Temptations and The Supremes.

Released as the B-Side to I Want You Back, in 1969, the Jackson 5 cover is the most famous version. It’s notable for young Michael’s outstanding vocal performance.

The Jackson 5 performed this song on their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show.

During live performances, Michael usually provided an intro about how he met a girl at school during sandbox. They shared cookies and then had an unfortunate falling out during finger painting. The segment typically ended with “I stepped up to her and I said…” leading into the song’s opening line.
