Co-written by Marit Larsen and Peter Zizzo, “Ten Steps” is, quite simply, one of the most beautifully sweet, gloriously happy celebrations of a break-up done in a specifically malicious, hateful manner to hurt the partner in much the way that the partner had hurt the narrator.

“I’ve got my suitcase, it’s locked and loaded”

“I’m about to break your heart or so I hope”

“I’m about to break your heart like you broke mine”

The narrator seems to have set up the circumstances of this break-up to ensure maximal damage and is overjoyed at the prospect. A far more complex song than its shimmering orchestral surface might imply.
