Punks Jump Up To Get Beat Down

Brand Nubian

Brand Nubian changed it up after the departure of Grand Puba, with “Punks Jump Up To Get Beat Down”, their rawest track to date. Several remixes (all produced by Diamond D) abounded, with Brand Nubian eschewing some of their positive, afro-centric business for some tough-guy subway shit.

It was released as the lead single to their album In God We Trust and went to #2 on the US Rap Chart. It also crossed over to pop, reaching #77 in early 1993. It has become controversial these days due to its homophobic line in verse one.
