After ONJ became an international star in 1978 with the success of the film Grease (and its soundtrack), her next film Xanadu, a roller-skating, disco fantasy flick, was considered a massive flop.

Its soundtrack, however, was a huge success. Its first single “Magic” topped the US and Canadian pop charts in the summer of 1980, and reached the top 40 in several countries overseas. The song was certified Gold and Billboard ranked it the #3 song of the year. Even John Lennon told Newsweek he enjoyed the song.
