95 Theses (The Ninety-Five Theses on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences)

95 Theses (The Ninety-Five Theses on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences)

Martin Luther

Released in 1517 and written by Martin Luther, this text protested against multiple things, including clerical abuses and the sale of indulgences by the church – the church used to sell indulgences and tell people this will make God forgive their sins. In reality, this was just a way of the church to steal money from the poor.
The German monk Luther posted the text on the door of the Castle Church of Wittenberg.

It was originally written in Latin, then translated into German and later into English.

It’s now regarded as one of the most important texts in history.
