The Turtles

This song was written by Gene Clark and Jim McGuinn in 1964, when they were performing as a folk-rock duo. They abandoned the song some time around when David Crosby joined them and formed the band that would become The Byrds. However, producer Chip Douglas heard Clark, McGuinn, and Crosby perform the song live, and some years later, introduced it to The Turtles. They were first to record the song, and it became their last major hit, peaking at No. 6 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.
