In February, 2005, Fall Out Boy bass player and primary lyricist Pete Wentz tried to kill himself by overdosing on the anti-depressant Ativan, which explains the subtitle “Atavan Halen”. (It should be noted that the drug name is purposefully misspelled in the title.)

The phrase is also a play on “Van Halen, which is fitting, as the song’s opening guitar riff’s shares similarity with the Van Halen style.
