I’m Coming Back

I’m Coming Back

Lalah Hathaway

“I’m Coming Back” was the 1990 major label debut single by Lalah Hathaway after signing with Virgin Records. This ballad written and produced by Gary Taylor was originally recorded by Vesta Williams for her debut album in 1986.

The song would become a signature song for Hathaway and a staple in her live shows. Fortuitously, the two performed the song as a live duet only a year before Williams' untimely passing.

For her 2011 album Where It All Begins, Hathaway appropriately re-recorded her debut single with star producer Phil Ramone at Capitol Studios with guest vocalist Rachelle Ferrell.

The song was reprised a third time on record for her first live album, the multiple Grammy-winning Lalah Hathaway Live in 2015.
